Thanks for alerting me to this. I had no idea that Macrumors took up GBs of my bandwidth cap. :p

Gotcha. I don't have bandwidth caps, so I wouldn't know about that.

You'd think they'd want maybe to put more capabilities into expanding the GPU power to help with OpenCL and GCD - we'll see, but wouldn't a Mac Pro mountable rack or a new Xserve version want this?

Hmmm... I think I'll go jailbreak my iPod touch now.

Maybe then I can get a toggle switch for wifi on my home screen.

    SBSettings.

Toggles for settings that you can get to with a single swipe across the status bar.

Our highway exits are distanced usually by a mile. Changing the system would really mess that up unless we reconstruct all the exit ramps.

This argument is just too funny. Right, people are going to suddenly start missing exits they've always taken once the metric system comes in. Oh, and all the old houses that were built to Imperial measurements will have to be torn down and rebuilt.

Guys, to anyone living in a country that's already made the switch, your arguments really do sound very Chicken Little. The switch won't be cheap or easy in the short term, but one thinks it's inevitable eventually. Why keep putting it off onto the next generation? Your kids WILL thank you if you switch today.

Even if we take SJ at his word (stupid idea, I know). The fact remains that Apple does store the database of all your moves on the phone and PC for eternity thus preserving the capability to access it any time they want. This is clearly a very bad idea any way you look at it.

    Putting on SJ hat:

    "You are all idiots anyways"

Globalization is a race to the bottom, and nobody seems to understand that while the 3rd world rises up, the 1st world inevitably must slide down.

It's not a zero sum game. Western economies will increasingly shift toward higher skilled professions as the BRIC countries take over manufacturing and mid level white collar work. The U.S. must step up its educational training in order for its many low paid service workers to move up the ladder, though.

Are you not familiar with the concept of an idiot? Seriously there is only so much you can do with some people. This whole idea that education can solve all our problems is bogus. Some people are beyond education and others like Steve J. Find a different path.

Beyond that you can't really have an economy without some sort of manufacturing. You know it is half of the goods and services phrase.

In any event Apples problems are age old and directly related to relying on a single supplier. Hopefully they can get this material they need manufactured in another plant. If not Apple will end up having some pretty bad quarters.

Back OT, I've not installed Sophos on my MBP yet, still waiting for more verdicts from you lot :)

The software is fine. You won't notice it unless you encounter malware etc. You can always uninstall it if you don't like it.

But likely not if the mood strikes you at 2 AM, or on a holiday.

You don't have to convince me that downloads are good, again, I have been installing my OSes over the Internet since the 90s. Apple is late to this game.

But the premise here was that it was "easier". It isn't. It might be more convenient for some people, but the Mac App Store doesn't make it any easier than it was from physical media.

Since publishers don't see squat for revenue from Android users (look at the numbers comparing app purchases on iPhone vs Android), what does this mean for Android apps in the long-term?

Will they quit making them? Will they continue, and just be subsidized by iOS profits?

    I didn't need to google, that's something I know.

Which you obviously didn't since your argument was why Apple should worry about their market share when Ferrari and Porsche aren't. They should just continue to make exclusive products.
I bet they worried right up and until they got bought by a company that didn't worry about making cheaper products.

    Re-Read your Porsche history.

Your understanding of the Porsche / VW relationship is backwards. It is Porsche that owns a stake in VW, not the other way around.

I find this report very hard to believe. An experienced company planning to launch a product, but not signing a contract with a company for x amount of LCD panels, a component that is notoriously in tight supply? Sounds more like Asia decided to raise their prices "due to the Tsunami" and gouge clients. They're doing it Apple, but they can afford to be gouged. RIM probably decided to sit it out for a bit.

I'm still on a 3GS. If I don't get an iPhone 5 this summer, the world won't end. In fact, it will be nice to not hear my wife get in my ear about getting an iPad & an iPhone only months apart from each other.

Plus, if they delay it & get better technology in it, I can wait it out.

The most dogmatic persons I have ever conversed with are evolutionists and atheists. Their decrying of religion is hilarious in view of the beliefs they present themselves. Faith. Credulity. Different words, often confused, often misapplied.

I think by definition religious individuals have to be considerably more dogmatic than atheists or evolutionists.

Ooop. Apple already so afraid? No wonder when a phone OS (Galaxy tab with Android 2.2) takes almost 20% marketshare in less than 3 months in the tablet market...

I think this will be part of Apple's lower prices for OS's. Snow Leopard was only $29 because it was more of a maintenance update for Leopard than a full new OS. But how do they explain that to customers who bought Leopard and will be asked to pay 4X as much?

The fact that top selling MacBookAir doesn't have an optical drive, already implies that they will almost definitely sell a USB key with Lion so there's no reason to also sell it on a disc for the remaining Mac's who don't upgrade via the Mac App Store.

Mac App Store: $49 | USB Key $59

    sounds good to me ....

Thats what I also expect, the the media (DVD/USB) at a small premium, cheaper for just the download .... I will probably get the USB if availible.
