I think Steve is outright lying about this.. I don't think most people aren't fond of this, including myself..
My opinion is that he's probably not lying. He's parsing his words in his usual terse style. Steve is not denying the existence of a record of each user's location. He's denying the accusation that Apple uses this information to track individual users. He's implying that it's being used for some other purpose.

Right. At the end of the day, customers chose with their wallets, and as of this year, more customers are choosing Android than iPhone (throw out Android tablet and iOS tablet as those are different categories and distort reality).

This would be an excellent move for enterprise. I've already been told I'm not getting Mac Pros into our data center. At best I can hope for a couple of Mac minis, but that's a pretty big compromise on both my end and our data center manager's.
It would also be a great move for desktop users, especially if it eliminates the laser-cut, hand-slicing "carry" handles. Ever tried to move one of those things between rooms, floors or buildings? I can't help wondering what TV forensics would make of the resulting lacerations.

Now we need someone to test it on an iPod touch, I'd be thrilled to see it work on an iPod. On the other hand, at that price (car kit + app) you can get a very decent Tomtom dedicated GPS-navigator and use your iPod for something else...

I don�t think we will see any portables with Merom for MWDC.
Don�t expect Apple to announce early then be up to 6 weeks behind demand on delivery. This could attract negative publicity, negative image.
Historically, Apple has been reluctant to upgrade portable lines, especially ibook, that had strong sales.
Anyone waiting for MBP Merom should be prepared to wait until November/December.

In the "old days" (i.e. pre-Intel) Apple could do this, keep selling outdated technology to clear out inventory before updating processors, graphics cards/chips, etc.
But now that they're competing head-to-head with PC technology, this won't EVER happen. It was not accidental that Yonah debuted on MBP's before Dell, HP and Sony started selling them. No, Apple will have them out of the chute as soon as anyone else does (Intel probably won't give Apple first dibs this time - that was probably a Yonah bribe to get Apple to commit to Intel), which means there's no way we'll be waiting until Christmas (unless some production snafu makes EVERYONE wait that long.)
Announcement in August, shipping in September maybe?

I think the reason why there is no new iphone this year is because maybe apple wants to come out with both at&t and verizone iphone at the same time next year. which would be less of a headache for both carrier and fans.

Don't apply the phone dynamic to Tablets. Android is not likely to take a lead in tablet market share for a long time if forever.
It really doesn't matter what the percentages are. At some point, the growth rate for tablets will start to slow down. By then, if you aren't already working on the next big thing, you're in trouble.
The point is that Apple is likely to be working to be working on that product already. The question is whether companies like Moto, Samsung, and HP are.

Seems like this timeline will screw up upgrades for iPhone 6 for people who buy iPhone 5. Unless, of course, they move all iPhone releases to the fall.

Also, don't hold your breath for USB3 - as far as Apple's concerned, USB3 is a dead technology.
Last I heard, Apple was simply waiting for Intel to support it natively. Intel is going to support USB3 in it's next generation chipsets (http://www.tomshardware.com/news/superspeed-usb-usb3-panther-point,12061.html), and they've made it clear that they don't see USB3 as a direct competitor to Thunderbolt.

I agree 100%. Apple disagrees. If you buy a car and decide to put a decal on the back window of a lady in a swimsuit, that's your right. If you buy a phone and decide to do the same in the background\wallpaper, that's your right too. What's next, Apple forcing you to only buy their cases? Apple forcing you to use their charging accessories (oops, they already do), lol.
