am I right in thinking that there is still no way to do extended desktop (two monitors displaying different stuff) on a Mini?
Hmmm... To cook an extended desktop on a Mini (sort of), you need:
1-) A Mac Mini
2-) An old Mac with a screen - mine is an old iBook G3
3-) A router
4-) Synergy
5-) Some kind of script - Automator does the job - to turn Synergy into a start-up item on both computers
Ok, it obviously doesn't give you two screens on your Mini, but you can cut and paste between screens, and use only one keyboard and mouse to control both, which is pretty sweet. Personally, I use my Mini for any kind of heavy workloads and the iBook for the small stuff. The lack of extended desktop was almost a show-stopper for me but, in the end, Synergy provides me with all the screen space I need. If you really need more than that though, maybe the Mini isn't the right machine.
EDIT: For example, I run Skype on my iBook. There is no difference whatsoever to me whether it is on my iBook or my Mini. You can use the secondary screen for a bunch of apps like those that do not really need to run on your Mini.

here's my current setup. I finally got a Intel Mac and it will become to main machine soon. In the Pic is everything in the sig but the IIc and Performa.

I'm thinking this too. I thnk the rumours of a new nano enclosure may also be the iphone. I guess we'll see but as Chundles points out this isn't the most reliable source of info (Digitimes).

Perhaps Microsoft should have a "switch" campaign like Apple for the Zune. Showing all the wonderful things like radio and squirting music and photos.

FX was used in the xServe, and they couldn't get dual-core CPU in there. As soon as they moved to woodcrest, they could replace that 2x G5 with 2x dual-core Woodcrests.

Perhaps, but you can find the much hotter Xeon Netburst chips (much hotter than the 970 dual core) in 1U systems (and even blades) from other companies.
It wasn't that "the dual core 970 was too hot for a 1U", but that Apple decided against coming out with a dual-core Xserve. (Since they knew that Intel was coming, it might not have been worth the engineering changes needed for the dual core...)

According to the site, Apple will replace the existing Core Solo model with the existing 1.66 GHz Core Duo model, and add a 1.83 GHz Core Duo model, effectively eliminating all single-core CPUs from Apple's computer product line.
The new systems are said to be "ready for production." Think Secret believes the models will be introduced in a few weeks time with little fanfare, although not totally under the radar like the last Mac Mini update (http://www.macrumors.com/pages/2005/09/20050930023909.shtml).Not Core 2 Duo??!! :eek: :confused: :( I can't beleive they are not going to go Core 2 Duo in the mini before Thanksgiving.Only if they don't drop prices. And for all you Yonah FanBoys out there I say you are completely out of touch with reality living in some sort of parallel dimension where old obsolete stopgap technology prevails beyond it's short useful lifespan. :) It makes no sense to me why would a laptop be more powerful than a desktop. If you're gonna stay with core duo why not just make the mini a 1.83 & 2.00 GHz Core Duo machine like the macbooks. 1.66 & 1.83 on a core duo is pathetic in my opinions and solidifies my believe that the mini and i will never get along....at least for now. I'm having major crashing problems with Lion. When editing a video in iMovie and converting it to HD it will crash right before finishing, same with editing an audio clip in Quicktime.

I feel like Apple could be saving some money here. Supplies are strained and there is a several week wait to get one. Do you really need more commercials right now?

It's the old adage... out of sight, out of mind. With supplies constrained gotta keep the iPad2 in people's heads.

I forgot to mention this in my earlier post.
Netflix and Blockbuster's Mail Delivery Business Plan is flawed. Here's why:
1) Physical DVDs starch and become useless after many times of use or by shipping and handling.
2) Shipping Cost is only going to increase and this is an overhead that NO COMPANY WANTS. Plus having to maintain distributing centers in each state with physical inventory that has to be maintained, organized and checked for quality control.
3) People watch movies on an impulse. Do you ever plan what movie you are going to watch several days in advance? NO. I know at my house, we subscribed to Blockbusters DVD Mail Service only because we get 2 Free in-store movie rentals each month. This is because I don't know what I want to watch, until I go to the store and see what they have available and what MOOD we're in. Maybe I felt like a Comedy a couple of days ago, but now I want a Thriller, so instant gratification is a BIG KEY to this new service from Apple. Whatever mood you are in, you don't have to wait a few days to receive it from Netflix, just to play it and it's so starched up that you are not able to view it.

I would also hope for the 3.4ghz i7-2600 sandy bridge processor.
I have the new i5-2500k in my new PC and this CPU will be suitable for the vast majority of people (obviously Apple would offer the i5-2500 rather than the 'k' varient). I think the premium charged for the minor performance gain for the i7-2600 simply isn't worth it.
I did a lot of research before settling on the i5-2500k and I'm very happy with the performance.

Amazing that a thread on whether or not a person CAN drive a stick shift car has turned into a full blown debate on the merits of automatic vs manual transmissions. Personally I think this argument is similar to the Mac vs PC argument that has gone on for years, ultimately they're different, and a person should be able to use whichever one (or both) they choose for their own personal reasons. In both cases, transmissions and personal computers, they have their good points and their bad points. To each their own...

So, the ipod touch 4G is my first iOS device, and I had a bunch of problems putting on the screen protector when I bought the Dermashot. So much in fact, that I ruined the protector. Not seeing any others for sale on the site, I emailed their customer service to inquire when they'd be on sale. They said "soon," but in the meantime they sent me two FREE ones! Love their customer support and the case looks great on mine. :D

Needless to say, the phone iPod line needs a generation bump seeing as they're all approaching or beyond their first anniversary. Apple don't need to improve them to beat Zune, but they do need to improve them to create the buzz which will humiliate Zune!
Games though ... hmm. Sure I like Nintendo and the comparisons between them and Apple are often accurate, but they're worlds apart when it comes to focus. Maybe something someday. But not yet I think.

Apple used to have all-in-ones, consumer towers, pro towers, etc. Remember the PowerMac 6400? Too many products is too confusing for the consumer. If that means that a couple of people can't get the exact configuration they want, so be it.

My last electric bill was $299 and change! A lot of that was because its been so damned cold (and my little old house has no insulation in the walls), colder and more snow than in many years. Folding uses power but helps with the heating :p now if I could just get those gpu's to glow a little brighter red I could turn off the furnace...

PS3 Consoles will cost 500-600 bucks. 400 bucks cheaper than a blu ray dvd player :) So I bet people could buy that as an alternative to read your blu ray movies. Plus I bet gaming on it will be totally awesome.
