Wow. A platform that is available on all four major carriers and has dozens of phones, passed the iPhone (which *just* became available on its second carrier) in overall usage. So I guess Google should be patting themselves on the back for this historic achievement.
Except that each and every single person who has purchased an Android phone could have purchased an iPhone instead. The fact there is one Android phone or ten Android phones is irrelevant. Every one of those people could have chose to buy an iPhone. They didn't.

LOL Jape--i like your positive thinking. I keep looking for an email update from them saying that they shipped it. Only time and patience will tell.
Interersting that a number have cancelled. I gave it a thought as the local apple store has them but the thought of saving almost $30 kept me from doing so.

Sure, it's capactive now, and higher rez, but it's still a bunch of scrollable icons on a phone to launch apps.
Wonder if the tablets they're going for are pre-honeycomb or post? It'd be hard to compare Honeycomb UI to anything Apple's currently doing, and any tablet prior to that, there's surely plenty of prior art android tablets? There were a whole bunch (admittedly lousy chinese cheap rubbish) tablets being demo'd at every tech conference for a year before Apple even admitted they had a tablet to sell.
The tablets have to be included I guess, but it's going to be hard work. The phones are the obvious vector they're going for, they do have UI patents, but when it comes down to it, and other phone manufacturers (or rather their lawyers) see how much money is involved, I can see it getting messy as everyone who had a phone with buttons on it (and there are many) will want to take a shot.

What's with everybody thinking this will be too US centric? I'm guessing a possible music download service will be USA only at first, but in all honesty the European and Asian cell phone markets are about 3 years ahead of the US as far as technology goes. Chances are, Apple will make it a GSM technology phone, which is actually quite international!
Even so, the USA is in dire need of a decent cell phone. The fact that the Razr is so popular says it all. The Razr is a terrible phone (along with most other Motorolas for that matter). And the rest of the selection available is pretty sad too!
Personally I'm hoping for a smart phone of some sort, preferably with a full qwerty keyboard. But I'm not holding my breath.

Wrong. As I posted, the expression as typed here is ambiguous because its interpretation depends on the conventions used. It has nothing to do with understanding or not mathematics. Both 2 and 288 are correct answers, according to the conventions you used.

Maybe they will move to at least 2x 2.5" drive slots for SSDs(or laptop hard disk drives if you want) with another 2x 3.5" for traditional storage.
In any event, I'd expect to see 2.5" drive slots somewhere in a new designed mac pro.

Well clearly you havent used lion. There are a lot of changes, i thought the developer preview was solid for that early a release. Its looking VERY PROMISING.

OK, I've had it on my MBP for about 3 weeks and I've noticed the spinning beach ball a lot more than I remember... no crashes though.
I've just taken it off; or at least tried to. I used AppDelete and it took off everything except the icon on my top bar. When I click on the icon, it says there are updates available... dooooh...

The Mac Pros sound great... I'm getting one! I hope to wait for quads-on-one-chip (Kentsfield, due later this year) in hopes of even more cost reduction, but I already like what I see today! And I'm curious: how good are the top BTO GPU options?
A smaller case seemed likely to me, but keeping the same case and fitting more expansion bays makes good sense too. But how about a mid-range tower? The market is there, and now you can't GET a dual-core Mac with choice of GPU--it's all quads. Sounds like there's a hole in the lineup. I bet Apple fills it... but "when" is the question. A dual-core Conroe headless with upradable GPU... I think it would sell well and draw Switchers, especially if priced as nicely as the new pro machines are.
Now we enter the era of "Merom MacBook Pros next Tuesday!" rumors :p

Don't think they will be complacent, but most likely without Steve Jobs they'll have a harder time.
As far as complaining about C2D, MBP res, etc. , add Blue Ray that's never an issue for me.
I don't buy any Apple product until I check out it's what I want or it's close enough to jump.
I was on the sidelines until 3rd gen ipod, on the sidelines until MBP's fell into my price range ( I like to buy one generation back), and currently on the sidelines until ipad 3 or 4 as well as iphone 5 or 6.
Good things come to those who wait. (I am from a generation that can wait without withdrawal symptoms)

I just want other companies to succeed, if only to make my Apple products that much better. Intel has been a Microsoft bitch for the past twenty years and it shows. They did everything they did to keep the 8086 instruction set running for every piece of screwed up DOS code written by guy with more karma than formal CS educations.
You do realize that this was mostly driven by multi-national corporations that didn't want to pay software engineers money to update all of the ancient legacy software right? Do you also believe MS wanted IE6 to stick around for 10 years? :rolleyes:

Out of interest, how would you enter (3' 7 13/16") / 3 into a standard calculator?
Keystroke for keystroke, just the way you did it, except substitute the fraction symbol for the apostrophe and quote symbols you used for feet and inches. I own several calculators, and they'll all do this.

Have you looked at the TouchWiz UI? It's almost identical to iOS - dock at the bottom, pages of icons in a grid and you even remove applications in the same way as you do on the iPhone. I've nothing at all against competition for iOS, but they shouldn't just rip the design off

ok, this is my proposal so we get going:
we temporarily split in two groups.
round1 turn 1:
a) appleguy (wilmer) and one or two more (ucf-rohn and aggie-rosius?) explore the start room
b) moyank (beatrice), me (Loras), plutonius (Jorah) and maybe another one (eldiablo-dante?) split and move to the door to the top right, as suggested by beatrice. hopefully no monster there on round one, but if so 3-4 people should be enough to deal with it

- group b) explores the second room for traps and treasure
