After hearing that they will delay shipping of the TomTom kit until December 2nd, I decided to give my local MacStore a call (not Apple Store). It was only $99.95 with no sales tax in Oregon. $10 more than Bottom Line Technologies, but I have the TomTom kit in my hands right now :)
What is the name of the store that you got it from? I'm curious to know if I could find one in my area

% of cool people...
95% iOS
04% Android
01% the rest
:p;)
Cool people don't tend to be followers, who do things that other people who they think are cool do, just so that they can feel that they are cool. Unfortunately, it does work in attracting other not so mentally strong people who think they are cool, for fitting a personality.

I have found 3 Relevant products out of 10. Weber Grill, Best grill you can buy; Viking rage, great Kitchen equip, and A Ecgg Machine. The rest of the items are nonsense. Cars and Tech just happen to be my specialty. And the US car makers are getting much much much better.

This is good news for future Macbook owners. I'm interested in when the iMac will get Conroe. A friend of mine is switching from Windows and wants the iMac but is waiting for Conroe in the iMac. I only hope they go with the desktop processor in the iMac and not Merom since he's not interested in the mobile processor in his desktop. Why would they give the Macbook that but leave the iMac with the original Core Duo? Doesn't make sense. I would think all three would get it or just the Macbook Pro.Well, hopefully the iMac will be updated sooner than the portables. Conroe is out and available in quantities now where as Merom won't be as available in quantities until the end of this month.I believe there's a an entirely new iMac in the works. The current design can't handle the heat Conroe will want to throw at it. And the Kentsfield 4-core processor will want even better cooling. Currently the iMac looks like it has a G5 inside. Apple doesn't like their Macs to look the same over too long a time.
Here's the Conroe processors I hope Apple will use in the all new iMac:
Core 2 Duo E6700 - 2.67 GHz (4 MiB L2, 1066 MHz FSB) 20 $1699 & 23" $1999
Core 2 Duo E6600 - 2.40 GHz (4 MiB L2, 1066 MHz FSB) 17" $1299
In January I hope they will offer a Kentsfield 4 core option in the 20 & 23" models - cause they are bigger and can cool Kentsfield much better than in the 17" enclosure - for an additional $500-$800 - pure guessing cause I don't know Kentsfield pricing yet.
Same is true for the MacBook Pro. It needs to go Black Anodized Aluminum with an easy HD swap out capability like the MacBook which is a radical redesign of the iBook. I think that the new iMac will follow on the heels of the MacBooks intro in September as well. Might even happen in Paris same day as MacBooks - September 12. :)
I feel so strongly about that MacBook Easy Switch HD feature, that I will not buy a MacBook Pro without it and may resort to the MacBook if they don't put that capability in the Pro model. That's a Pro feature in the MacBook. Makes the MacBook sort of a MacBook Pro Jr. Also note that the next MacBook will have a much better Integrated Graphics chipset that goes with Merom that can handle 3-D very well.

Can't Android users upgrade to the latest OS? 2.3.3 is the latest phone OS.
Heh. No.
Remember the line from Animal Farm? "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others." Actually, Google's promises are a lot like Communism's promises when you think about it. ;)

Bogus story because Apple would never fit graphics cards capable of outputting at that res in the iMacs or laptops. Plus I don't think any single monitor can have that resolution that you can buy today?

I just bought the iPhone 4 and to be honest, I don't even feel an ounce of disappointment that I could've waited a 5 months for the iPhone 5. I am so thrilled with the iPhone 4 and its capabilities. I've never run into any issues with the external antennae.. I dunnno. I'm a long time diehard apple fan.
Sorry if this seemed a bit irrelevant, just wanted to throw my two cents in.
From what I'm seeing about the iPhone 5 hear, it's really the iPhone 4S ("S" for speed). If my phone can continue to run forthcoming iOS releases well, I don't see myself upgrading until a 64 GB version appears.

I see this being used as the interface remote for iTV. As a full-blown PDA device, no.
I think this is likely, too, though I'm sure it would have additional functionality that has yet been discussed.

(qoute above me). Let alone isn't it that Apple orders for such an amount of processors for such a price (discounted over market price), and then puts those in laptops. So what I mean it really doesn't matter if Yonah is reduced does it?Apple probably has a JUST-IN-TIME arrangement with Intel that keeps an obsolete processor inventory from ever building up. This would be pared with an auto price reduction scheme as Intel lowers prices to the public. Just guessing.

Yes they can. There is no protection under law for making money off the ineptitude of other companies. Apple is entitled, and expected to fix bugs. When those bugs get fixed, an avenue for jail breaking gets closed. Companies that see their revenue stream dry up are just screwed. That's life.
Jail breaking happens because Apple screwed the pooch on security. That's all.
Thats the problem you missed
restraint of trade,
Apple would take Microsoft or any other company to court in o.0005 seconds if restraint of trade was against them.
Jail breaking is ruled legal by the federal government
Cydia and theme it require Jailbreaking to sell the apps they have.
Cydia and theme it are legally selling apps
Apple then goes after Jailbreaking and restrains Cydia and theme it from doing legal trade
This is not a legal act by Apple, so they say its patching for security reasons ( A lie)
You call it security yet the doorway used to jailbreak the Iphone or Ipad has never been used for anything else then Jailbreaking.
Your using an Apple company tactic of telling us its unsafe, you work for apple or believe the unsupported claims by Apple.
Apple believes it looses money from Jailbreaking because these people now buy from other sources than Apple's app store.
I find it sad that so many believe what ever Apple says is the truth.
Apple is a multi billion dollar company that needs to make money all the time off of you. they need your money and undying loyalty. :apple:
( I know people will not agree with my take on this, its fine, I hate big corporations and how they lie to us, look at the Japanese and the lies from the power company, it happens again and again everyday)

I guess I am the only one that remembers that it started out as a free service. Before it was .Mac it was called iTools and it was free. It was a benefit of being a part of the Mac community. It certainly was much more basic back then, but I have been using it since. The remote wipe for iPhone and other added features keep it worth the family pac price for this household even if it doesn't go back to being a free service.
I remember good old iTools, in fact, you didnt even have to have a mac to use the email if I remember right. There was a huge uproar when a Jaguar update started branding it .mac and would began charging. The good old days! It's kinda a sucker punch to all of us who paid when it was .mac. The only benefits of .mac were iDisk, ecards and backup really. $99 for that compared to mobileMe, makes mobileMe a bargain, lol.

There's way to many naysayers on this site. I've been a MacRumors reader for many years. It's because of this forum that I had finally switched to the Mac.
There are possibilities for a tablet that your standard notebook can not serve. Ever get an email that requires a document to be signed and sent back? Not a problem if you're near a printer and fax/scanner. I get dozens of those a day. Granted that might be a niche requirement because I work in the Real Estate and Mortgage industry.
There are countless applications though where writting is more natural than typing. Where touching is better suited than point and click.
I'm a techie. Always have been and always will be. I switched to the Mac because it allows me to do more and worry less! Simple.
I want a device that I can check email on the go, sign documents, sketch a quick idea, circle an interesting part of an article for someone to look over, browse the web with ease, control my other computers/servers, take a picture and write some notes on it so that someone can get a better idea of what I'm thinking and countless other possibilities I haven't thought of.
The reality is that what makes technology great isn't just the hardware. It's the software that compliments it! TabletPC's to date haven't done well because you have two companies working on different visions. There's the hardware manufacturer and then there's the software developer. Apple could bring it together with a complimentary OS and application bundle.
Oh and I haven't read anyone else bring up this method for keyboard entry for those neccessary moments when it just feels better.

So someone forced you to read *and* comment on a story titled clearly "Motorola Xoom Tablet Sales: ..." ? Or was that not enough of a clue ?
My point was not that I don't want to see stories about Android devices on a Apple-centric site, or hear valid arguments for both sides, because then I truly would be closed-minded as some may believe.
I love discussing the pros and cons of different technological devices with others who's opinions may differ from my own. However, is it too much to ask that rabid, Android proselytizers, refrain from flooding a forum with baseless, biased, bs in order to "put us in our place" or preach the gospel of Andriod?
The same goes for Apple fanatics trolling on Android sites. If you can't put aside your ridiculous prejudices when discussing things, you ain't helpin' the cause, if you know what I mean...on either side.

Irrelevant. Just because I stick a Ford logo on the hood doesn't mean I can make my new Mustang look like a Porsche Carrera clone.
Industrial design is legally protected work. And should be. It doesn't matter how you price your competing product.
How is having a grid of application icons a 'protected work' on a handheld device. The first time I saw this was in the mid to late 90's, and it was not from Apple. Unless it can be shown that Apple patented square icons in a grid pattern, I don't see your point.

I'm downloading it as well, but I have no icon on my dock to show me the progress! AppStore said the download had started, but I see no icon. I tried to Redeem my code again, but it said it had already been redeemed. My bandwidth monitor is reporting a solid 600KB/s down though... hopefully it works!
Actually the download is happening in the Launchpad icon this time... that's new

Apple doesn't need to deliver a revolutionary phone-like device to grab marketshare. It's more about integrating a device within the system... and that is something Apple is good at.
Phones, new features, and additional functionality are a dime-a-dozen. New bells and whistles are added all the time, that's not what the market needs. Someone (hopefully Apple!) needs to take some of these advancements and deliver a products that integrates them in a logical and intuative way.
I second this insight. The market has been exposed to the gimmicks and now that the package has worn thin they are looking for an intuitive, durable and reliable phone that has some features you'd expect in a computer but mostly a phone that can be used with any carrier and doesn't need to be updated every 9 months.

This seems like an inevitable move in the convergence of iOS devices and Mac computers. They will eventually be the same thing. Powerful, robust, thin, power efficient, easy to use touch interface. Lion is moving in the direction of the iPad and iOS in general. The iPad has been gaining more Mac-like features and robust applications. I think the time tables are probably off. I don't see this happening for 4 to 5 years at the earliest. But with billions upon billions in cash reserves, Apple can pretty much do whatever they want!
If this convergence were to happen i think it'd be more likely for iOS to take on intel processors, not the other way around.
